Collection Description

Historical Note

The Great Speckled Bird was as alternative press newspaper published in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1968-1976. It was revived briefly for 10 months in 1985-1986.

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains the records of the Great Speckled Bird including general correspondence, some of which is from prisoners; financial ledgers; printed material; and legal files. The collection also contains a copy of the first issue of the “fake Bird” published by an unrelated group in the 1990s.
