Collection Description

Biographical Note

The first meeting of the Emory Medical History Club was held in the Wesley Memorial Hospital library on October 23, 1923. Taken from the Bulletin of the Fulton County Medical Society, "believing that modern medicine can be better appreciated and practiced by a more intimate knowledge of medicine of the past, papers have been prepared and read on the lives and times of various men, such as Oliver Wendell Holmes, Brown-Sequard, Ephraim McDowall, Marion Sims, Louis Pasteur, Willis Westmoreland, Abner W. Calhoun, Sir Victor Horsely, Benjamin Rush and others." The club's president was J. Calvin Weaver of Atlanta, with William Willis Anderson serving as secretary.

Membership in the club required eligibility in the Fulton County Medical Society. The club remained in operation until it was disbanded on February 21, 1929.
