Collection Description

Biographical Note

The Department of Radiology was formed at Emory University in the 1940s. Originally both diagnostic radiology and radiation therapy were within the Department of Radiology. In 1991 Radiation Oncology became a separate department and in 2011 the Department of Radiology became the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences.

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains materials from the Department of Radiology and Imaging Services within Emory University School of Medicine. Materials include biographical files from prominent radiologists in the department. These files contain resumes and other papers documenting achievements and research. This collections also contains administrative files such as annual reports (1981-2004), correspondence, and radiology residents and fellows (1948-2012). Also included are publications and printed materials such as newsletters, pamphlets, and documents all related to the history of the radiology department. Series 4 contains documents concerning a faculty project teaching chest radiograph search patterns to facilitate pulmonary nodule detection (2013-2017). Additionally this collections contains DVDs regarding the state of the radiology department and several photographs from the department's history.
