Collection Description

Administrative History

The Child Advocacy Project was created in 1993 as a result of a volunteer initiative begun in 1992 when a number of Emory Law School students volunteered to act as child advocates in DeKalb, Fulton, Newton and Gwinnett juvenile courts. In an effort to build upon that initiative, an advisory committee was organized and a formal proposal was developed. In April of 1993, the Task Force against Child Abuse provided a grant of $15, 000 to Emory Law School to support the project. The project continued until March of 2000 when the Barton Child Law and Policy Clinic was established.

Scope and Content Note

The records of the Child Advocacy Project consist of reports to and records of the advisory committee, one report to the Task Force on Child Abuse, training materials, brochures, and a video and accompanying handbook entitled "In the Best Interest of the Child."
