Scope and Content Note

The writings series contains a comprehensive collection of Harold Berman's writings that span his entire career. Most extensive is the collection of articles compiled by the Center for the Study of Law and Religion (CSLR), these articles are typically found in law journals or other publications. Drafts, author notes, and correspondence from ten of his books are also included, in particular Berman's title Law and Language: Effective Symbols of Community which is divided by chapter and includes early drafts and notes, with many of the chapter titles differing from the final draft. In addition to his articles and books, the writings series also includes book reviews, lectures and speeches, manuscripts, statments, forewords and introductions all written by Harold Berman.

Organized into five subseries: (2.1) Articles, (2.2) Books, and (2.3) Compiled Writings, (2.4) Unpublished Writings, and (2.5) Other Writings.
