Collection Description

Biographical Note

Born in West Point, New York in 1887, Hal Curtis Miller attended Emory College 1903-1907. He left Emory to attend the Atlanta School of Medicine 1905-1906, but returned to Emory College to finish his undergraduate career. While at Emory College he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, the Phi Gamma Literary Society, and was on the honor roll his senior year. Miller was a speaker at the 1907 senior banquet. After graduating from Emory College, he attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he earned his medical degree in 1909.

After earning his medical degree, Miller returned to Atlanta to practice medicine. Throughout his career Hal Curtis Miller worked at a number of Atlanta-area hospitals including Emory University Hospital, Georgia Baptist Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, and Crawford Long Hospital. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was a member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity.

Hal Curtis Miller died on February 27, 1959.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of photographs, scripts of speeches given by Miller, academic papers, correspondence, grade reports, personal papers, and notes. The collection also includes two scalpels, two Alpha Tau Omega commencement engagement books, and a 1904 Emory College commencement program bound in wood leaf. The photographs are related to the 1904-1907 members of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Many of the photographs are personally inscribed to Hal Curtis Miller by the subject.
