Biographical Note

Born in Edgerton, Ohio in 1911, J. Edward Lantz earned his B.A. degree from DePauw University prior to masters degrees from both Yale Divinity School and the University of Michigan. During the 1960s, Lantz served as the Executive Director of the Southern Office of the National Council of Churches. An author or editor of eight books, Lantz also wrote over 100 articles, essays, and major book reviews throughout his career. After his retirement as a minister of the United Methodist Church in 1976, he served for five years as the president of the United Nations Associations, Atlanta Chapter. In 1984, he and his wife Ruth Cox Lantz established the John Edward and Ruth Cox Lantz Chair in Christian Communications at Yale Divinity School.
