Collection Description

Historical Note

The Care and Counseling Center of Georgia (CCCG) was a professional organization formed in 1957 as a collaborative effort of several institutions to offer programs of pastoral care and provide education to seminarians and ministers. CCCG has been formerly known as The Verdery Group (1957-1962), Georgia Association of Pastoral Care (1962-2002), and Georgia Association of Pastoral Counseling (2003-2011). In 2012, the name changed to the Care and Counseling Center of Georgia. Through connections with local hospitals and churches, they were able to provide chaplaincy and affordable pastoral counseling to the greater Atlanta community for over 60 years. On March 1, 2020, the organization became a part of CHRIS 180.

Scope and Content Note

The records of The Care and Counseling Center of Georgia (CCCG) include a wide array of files on the workings of the organization. Though it is not an exhaustive understanding of the daily activities and structure of CCCG, this collection shows a large overview through the years. With its executive meetings, contracts, pamphlets, photographs, and communications both within and without the center, one can get a sense of how the organization changed and grew over the course of its tenure.

Series one encompasses administrative files which includes staff meeting notes, biographies of executive directors, correspondence between staff, historical overviews, and future strategic planning.

Series two contains the records of the Board of Governors meetings. It includes minutes for the quarterly meetings as well as lists of board members and correspondence of those in attendance.

Series three contains the largest part of the collection which consists of contracts and correspondence with other organizations. Most contain contractual agreements between churches or hospitals and CCCG to connect pastoral counselors with congregants with the expectations of both parties.

Series four is focused on the Executive Committee. The series includes meeting minutes, correspondence between attendees, and additional notes from the meetings.

Series five consists of photographs and other A/V materials. The photographs show both grouped and individual employees through the years at work parties and candidly at the office. The series also includes sermons, brochures, and pamphlets from throughout CCCG’s duration.

Arrangement Note

Organized into five series: (1) Administrative Files, (2) Board of Governors, (3) Contracts and Correspondence with Other Organizations, (4) Executive Committee, and (5) Photographs and Audiovisual Materials.
