Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Special Library Collections acquired the collection from AIDS Survival Project soon after the organization closed and transferred the collection to Rose Library in 2018.

Appraisal Note

Randy Gue, Curator of Modern Political and Historical Collections, acquired this collection as part of the Rose Library's holdings in LGBTQ history and culture and the history of HIV/AIDS in Atlanta. During packing, Gue and Manuscript Archivist, Sarah Quigley, reviewed and decided not to acquire oversized material, awards, artwork, and a small amount of administrative records that included personally identifying information of clients.

Collection Description

Historical Note

The AIDS Survival Project (ASP) was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1987. One of the first organizations in Atlanta founded specifically to serve the community of individuals diagnosed with HIV and AIDS, it offered support services, such as HIV testing and peer counseling. The organization ceased most operations in 2008 due to decreasing financial support and closed completely in 2009.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of the records of the AIDS Survival Project from 1987-2009. It includes financial records, development records, such as donor files and grant files, records of the organization's peer counseling program, and records documenting the organization's advocacy work and special programming.
