Presumed Gift of Raymond Danowski, 2004
Custodial History
Believed to have been originally received as part of the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library. Archivists were unable to identify documentation of this collection, but it was located with several other press collections donated by Raymond Danowski in 2004, including the Trigram Press records and the Covent Garden Press collection. Danowski purchased these materials from a book dealer with the intention of donating the material to the Rose Library.

Appraisal Note
Former Director of the Rose Library Steve Enniss acquired the collection as part of the Rose Library's holdings in literature and poetry. Archivists have retained all material received with the collection.

Historical Note
Artaud's Elbow was a small press in Berkeley, California, created by William (Bill) Garrett and named for French dramatist and poet Antonin Artaud. It published literature and poetry and was active from circa 1964-1996.

The collection consists of the records of poetry and literature press Artaud's Elbow from 1964-1982, primarily manuscripts with related correspondence submitted to the press for review.
