Collection Description

Historical Note

Atlanta Art Papers, Inc. is an Atlanta, Georgia, based non-profit organization that "provides an accessible forum for examining, discussing, and documenting the full spectrum of contemporary art and culture, as well as the ways they affect and reflect our lives." They publish a magazine, Art Papers, devoted to American and international contemporary art and also host numerous public programs such as Art Papers Live and an annual art auction. The organization was founded in 1976 as the Atlanta Art Workers Coalition and began publishing a newspaper in 1978. In 1980, the publishing operation separated from the Atlanta Art Workers Coalition and was renamed Atlanta Art Papers. In 1981, the paper was renamed again following a merger with the journal Contemporary Art Southeast, this time becoming Art Papers and adopting the magazine format.
