Scope and Content Note

The series consists of materials related to the planning and execution of exhibitions at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC) from 1970-2014. The series includes large numbers of photographs, negatives and slides, clippings, and planning, administrative, and promotional materials. Planning materials include correspondence, artist and participant lists, installation instructions, volunteer lists, guest lists, artist statements, exhibition inventories, and notes. Administrative materials contain condition reports and loan agreements, grant applications and budget forms, fact sheets, financial records, shipping receipts, volunteer and contact lists, notes, and correspondence. Promotional materials include invitations, fliers, newspaper clippings, public service announcements, and posters.

The series contains materials from seasonal solo series and individual shows, biennial shows, group shows, and photo salons and documents exhibitions featuring local Atlanta artists and artists from around the world. There are numerous materials relating to the 1996 exhibition Out of Bounds: New Work by Eight Southeast Artists, an exhibition held in conjunction with the 1996 Summer Olympic Games held in Atlanta. There is also a substantial amount of material relating to the following exhibitions: Against the Tide (1990); Vital Signs (1991); Espiritu/Forma: Contemporary Artists from Mexico (1993); Local Sex, Love and Death (1994); Forces of Change: Women Artists of the Arab World (1995); Arturo Lindsay: Animas, Arcangeles y Antepasados (1996); Points of Entry (1997); From Your House to Our House (1999); Requiem (1999); Found Wanting (2000); and Here Kitty, Kitty (2000). Some exhibitions feature well-known artists, such as Adrian Piper, Carrie Mae Weems, P.H. Polk, Alan Sondheim, Arturo Lindsay, Larry Anderson, Joni Mabe, Ellen Banks, Pat Oleszko, Michiko Itatani, Christopher Verene, Luis Camnitzer, and Hew Locke.
