Appraisal Note

Curator of Modern Political and Historical Collections Randy Gue acquired the collection as part of the Rose Library's holdings in contemporary photography. During processing in 2018, Rose Library staff removed half of a linear foot of duplicate materials and returned them to the donor. Appraisal decisions were made by Accessioning and Collections Manager Meaghan O'Riordan in consultation with Randy Gue.

Processing

Arranged and described at the collection level by Meaghan O'Riordan, September 2018. The donor housed nearly all of the printed material in sleeves in binders organized by year, and this arrangement was retained during processing.

Collection Description

Historical Note

Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the cultivation of the photographic arts and the enrichment of the Atlanta, Georgia, art community. The organization stemmed from a conversation between Corinne Adams and Susanne Katz in 1998 about how to build a stronger photographic community in Atlanta. The 501(c)3 was formed with Susan Todd-Raque as President, Susanne Katz as Vice President, Pam Holland as Treasurer, and Corinne Adams as Secretary. The four founding officers and Lucinda Bunnen funded the founding of the organization. Anna Dennington became the first full-time Executive Director in 2004. In 2007, ACP hired Michael David Murphy as Program Manager and Amy Miller as the new Executive Director. ACP developed "ACP Now!" a dynamic online resource for photographers, venues, and enthusiasts, updated weekly.

ACP hosts an annual, citywide photography festival in October, the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival. The festival includes a wide variety of exhibitions and multiple events around Atlanta and throughout the surrounding communities. Throughout the year, ACP sponsors additional community programming and opportunities specifically for the professional development of photographers.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of the records of Atlanta Celebrates Photography from 1997-2015 and primarily contains printed material created by ACP for and about activities and events produced by the organization. There are also photographs, negatives, and slides documenting events, including digital photographs stored on compact disks. Also included are some records documenting the formation of the organization as well as videocassette tapes and one audio cassette tape with recordings of events and interviews.

Arrangement Note

Arranged by record type.
