Scope and Content Note

The series consists of printed material created by or about the Bond family and printed material created by other people or organizations and collected by the Bond family. Printed material by the Bond family includes reprints of Horace Mann Bond's published articles and speeches, and clippings of newspaper and magazine articles by James Bond and Julian Bond. Printed material about the Bond family includes conference and event programs highlighting Bond family members' involvement, as well as magazine, journal and newspaper articles about the Bond family, including Horace Mann Bond, Julia Washington Bond, Julian Bond, James Bond and Jane Bond Moore. It also includes material from Julian Bond's senate, congressional and presidential campaigns, as well as material from James Bond's city council campaigns.t

Other printed material primarily relates to African American culture and education, with a special emphasis on the Atlanta area. It includes programs, brochures and promotional material from institutions such as Atlanta University, Fisk University, Fort Valley State College, Lincoln University, Morehouse College and Spelman College. It also includes material relating to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), newspaper clippings concerning items of local and national interest to the African American community, and numerous brochures featuring African American artists. The series also includes limited material relating to extended family members, including Horace J. Bond, J. Max Bond, Max Bond, Michael Julian Bond, and James Bond, the father of Horace Mann Bond.
