Series 2
Committee files and other professional papers, 1915-1989 (bulk 1950-1989)
Boxes 46 - 77 and 101, and AV1

Scope and Content Note

The series consists of Boozer's committee and other professional papers from 1915-1989 (bulk 1950-1989), including professional correspondence as well as files related to his involvement in professional organizations, academic conferences, and Emory University administration. Many Emory files pertain to the Department of Religion, while others document university-wide development, including university governance and oversight. Of particular interest are files pertaining to the Jay and Leslie Cohen Chair of Judaic Studies, the David Goldwasser Lectureship in Religion and the Arts, and University Worship (including Boozer's time as University Chaplain in 1965). The series also contains files on Emory student organizations and groups that Boozer advised or participated in as a faculty member.

Other professional organization and conference files pertain to Boozer's academic interests in religion and philosophy, the Holocaust, and Christian-Jewish relations. Boozer served on the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and was involved with local Jewish organizations such as the Atlanta Jewish Federation as well as national organizations like the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He also served as president of the North American Paul Tillich Society for several years. Professional correspondence consists of letters between Boozer and other academics, as well as religious leaders in the Christian and Jewish communities.

Arrangement Note

Arranged in alphabetical order.
