Biographical Note

Jessie M. Bright (1904-2001) was an African American woman who lived in Oakland, California. She was a Baptist as well as a member of the fraternal organization Beulah Chapter, Golden State Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Rite of Adoption.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of fliers, bulletins, programs and other printed items primarily documenting African American Baptist churches in Oakland, California from 1957-1991. There is also printed material documenting national, California state, and western regional Baptist organizations, as well as material from churches outside of Oakland. The collection also includes a small number of souvenir programs and several dues ledgers from the fraternal organization Beulah Chapter, Golden State Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Rite of Adoption. Many of the items in the collection are annotated by Bright. Unless otherwise noted, all organizations are located in Oakland, California.
