Series 5
Subject files, 1979-2010 [bulk 1989-2010]
Boxes 27 - 36, 40 and OP 2

Scope and Content Note

The series consists of general subject files and files relating to Elaine Brown's speaking engagements from 1979-2010. General subject files document organizations that Brown was involved in, such as the Black Riders Liberation Party, Black Women's Conference, Women's Literary Collective, and Black Women's Think Tank, and projects that Brown worked on, such as the "IMAGINE" radio talk show, Oakland School Project, La Jeunesse Exercise Salon and Day Spa, and her blog on Barack Obama. The series also includes brochures, programs, fliers, and newspaper and article clippings, as well as others' biographies, writings, and resumes. Of note are writings by Barbara Chase-Riboud as well as correspondence between Brown and Chase-Riboud regarding Brown's former partner Pierre Elby.

This series also contains materials regarding Brown's speaking engagements through The Terrie Williams Agency, Quest Agency, Beacon Press, The Lecture Bureau, and the Speak Out! Agency, as well as her independent lectures. These materials include her lecture schedules, presentation notes, promotional materials, correspondence regarding scheduling and logistics, and tickets and travel documents.

Arrangement Note

Arranged by file type, then in alphabetical order.

Processing Note

In the speaking engagement section of this series staff have retained the original chronological organization of the materials, but also imposed organization by the agency or individual engagement in order to enhance access. When notes, correspondence, and promotional materials were identifiable by agency or engagement they were included in those folders. Due to the volume of documents, they were grouped by record type when event or agency could not be identified.
