Scope and Content Note

The subseries consists of materials relating to the writing and preparation for publication of Cleage's novels, scripts for plays and performance pieces, screenplays, and teleplays from 1966-2011. All of her published works of fiction are represented in this subseries including What Looks Like Crazy On An Ordinary Day, I Wish I Had A Red Dress, Babylon Sisters, and Baby Brother's Blues. There are multiple manuscript and typescript versions of each work along with corrections by Cleage and copy editors, page proofs, galley proofs, and preliminary book jackets. Of particular interest are manuscript notes and drafts on character development, including cutouts from magazines and detailed character profiles. Manuscript and typescript drafts of play scripts, scripts for performance pieces, screenplays, and teleplays written, performed and/or directed by Cleage are also included.
