Scope and Content Note

The series consists of writings by other authors from 1955-2008. Writings include essays, poems, short stories, book manuscripts and drafts, dissertations and theses, theater and film scripts, and song lyrics. The bulk of the material was sent to Cleage for revisions, edits, and suggestions. Academic works analyzing Cleage's literary contributions as an African American feminist playwright and novelist and writings collected by Cleage for research purposes are included. The series also contains manuscripts, short stories, and poems by her husband and writer, Zaron W. Burnett, Jr.
