Series 8
Audiovisual material, 1966-2008
Boxes AV1-AV5

Scope and Content Note

The series consists of audiovisual material relating to Pearl Cleage from 1966-2008. The earliest audio and video recordings are of sermons and interviews by Reverend Albert B. Cleage (also known as Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman), religious leader, Black Nationalist, and civil rights activist. The series also contains video recordings of Cleage and Zaron W. Burnett, Jr.'s performances with the Just Us Theater Company.

The material includes interviews of Cleage, most of them for radio shows; readings of the author's writings (sometimes by Cleage herself, but also by others); performances of her plays; and public events. The series also encompasses several interviews by Cleage, most of them from her tenure as producer of "Ebony Beat Journal" (1972-1973). The series also contains audiovisual material collected by Cleage such as coverage of the New Orleans crisis following Hurricane Katrina, Clarence Thomas' confirmation hearing, several documentaries, and mixed tapes.
