Subseries 2.1
Notebooks, circa 1960-1981
Box 15

Scope and Content Note

The notebook subseries, spanning from the 1960s to 1981, contains manuscript drafts of Clifton's collected and uncollected poems, dated fragments of poems, fragments of essays and short stories, and a 1965 essay entitled "Phenomenology, Logic, Mathematics" by her late husband, Fred Clifton. Although most of the notebooks have few writings, some have fragments of Lucille Clifton's own spiritual writings, in which she conducts written interviews with the dead.
