Scope and Content Note
The printed material about Clifton subseries contains a variety of published resources pertaining to the author, including newspaper, magazine and journal articles, brochures, invitations, flyers and posters, press releases, programs, promotional material, and reviews of her works. In addition, the section also contains a header entitled "other," which has a range of printed material from musical compositions written for her poetry to literary awards given out in her honor.
The general section, which contains magazine and newspaper articles, brochures, invitations, flyers and posters press releases and programs ranging from 1969 to 2005, highlights much of Clifton's public life during those years. Articles site Clifton's receipt of the National Book Award and her time spent sharing her Children's books in public school systems across the country. Programs and invitations of note concern Clifton's evening at the White House, and her numerous public poetry readings.
Promotional material includes articles, blurbs, postcards, and other materials meant to bring attention to Clifton's poetry and prose. Promotional material ranges from 1969, with her first poetry volume Good Times, continuing to Mercy, Clifton's 2004 book of poetry.
