Scope and Content Note

The series consists of published materials about or written or edited by Joe Cumming from 1961-2005. Also included are published materials by Doug and Emily Cumming from 1975-1998. Printed materials by Joe Cumming are primarily freelance works and include articles, poems, a booklet, and book reviews. Two articles, "The South: Changes Deep and Subtle" and "The Maddox Touch" were published in Newsweek. Also included are four articles by Joe Cumming's son, Doug Cumming, on topics such as teaching, a high school reunion, Olive Ann Burns, and an arsenic poisonings investigation; and one piece by Joe's wife, Emily Cumming, entitled "Kathy's Surprise." Publications featuring works by or about Cumming include West Georgian, Atlanta Magazine, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, American Way, Georgia Magazine, Eclectic, Esquire, Harper's, St. Margaret's Notebook, Times-Georgian, Diocese, The Washington Post, Atlanta Journal and Constitution Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and Chronicle of Higher Education.
