Biographical Note

ERA Georgia, Inc. was formed in Atlanta (Ga.) in 1973 for the purpose of securing ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) by the Georgia General Assembly. It began under the name Georgia Coalition for the ERA and became Georgia Council for the ERA before incorporating in 1978 as ERA Georgia, Inc.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of records of ERA Georgia, Inc. and its predecessors, the Georgia Coalition for the ERA and the Georgia Council for the ERA from 1973-1982. The records include correspondence of three of its coordinators: Dorris Holmes, Beth Schapiro, and Dorothy Tracy; administrative files; membership records; clippings, newsletters, and other printed materials relating to passage of the Equal Rights Amendment; minutes of the Georgia Coalition for the ERA and the Georgia Council for the ERA; and campaign financial disclosure reports (1978-1979) of candidates for the state legislature. Included also are two audiotapes and one videotape (1981-1982) regarding ERA work in Georgia.
