Collection Description

Administrative History

The Student Government Association was established on the Emory University campus in 1966 out of what had been the Student Council. The Student Government Association is an elected body, consisting of three branches: Elective, Legislative, and Judicial, intended to represent the concerns and interests of Emory University students to administrators and policy makers of the University.

Scope and Content Note

Records of the Emory Student Government Association include meeting minutes and agenda, budgets, correspondence, bills and resolutions, rosters, bylaws, publications, and subject files related the work of the Student Government Association and to issues concerning Emory University students such as student conduct, student life, and campus planning. Notable issues include drug and alcohol policies, race relations, and student reactions to the Vietnam War and Emory University's Air Force ROTC unit. There are also some materials related to the Student Government Association's predecessor, the Student Council.
