Collection Description

Administrative History

Emory College was chartered in 1836 to the Georgia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The College was an extension of the Georgia Conference Manual Labor School. The first students of the College, freshmen and sophomores, were enrolled in 1838. The Office of the Registrar was responsible for maintaining matriculation records, student grades and attendance, and lists of current and prospective students.

Scope and Content Note

Collection includes matriculation registers, lists of prospective students, grade books, attendance records, and other records of the Emory College Office of the Registrar. Matriculation registers include students names, dates of birth, dates of entry, names of parent or guardian, and hometowns. The collection also includes an index, transcribed onto index cards, of volumes I and II of the matriculation registers.
