Collection Description

Administrative History

Emory College was chartered to the Georgia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1836, and the original campus was erected in Oxford, Ga. The College was rechartered as Emory University and relocated to Atlanta, Ga., in 1914. Emory Junior College at Valdosta opened to students in 1928 and was closed in 1954.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of photographs of subjects related to Emory University including Emory University, Emory College, Oxford College, and Emory Junior College at Valdosta campuses, buildings, students, activities and events, administrators, trustees, faculty, and alumni. There are also photographs of events and occurrences including commencement, convocation, Dooley's week, pushball games, student protests, and dances, as well as photographs of student groups including fraternities and sororities, honor societies, military R.O.T.C., athletic teams, the Glee Club, and other performing arts and musical groups.
