Administrative History

The Symposium of Reconciliation was held at Emory University in January 2001 as the central event of the Year of Reconciliation, a designation given to the 2000-2001 academic year by university president William M. Chace and provost Billy Frye. The symposium's keynote speaker was former United States President Jimmy Carter. Other prominent persons involved in the symposium included former Emory president James T. Laney, Harvard University professor Edward Wilson, South African Constitutional Court justice Richard Goldstone, American Council of Learned Societies president John D'Arms, and United States congressman John Lewis.
