Collection Description
Administrative History
The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies (MESAS) at Emory University was established in 2001, merging the South Asian Studies and Middle Eastern Studies programs. The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies is dedicated to teaching and research in the languages, literatures, history, religions, cultures, and ideas of the peoples of the Middle East and South Asia.
Scope and Content Note
Records of the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies consist chiefly of digital video and digital photographs documenting various events hosted or sponsored by the department and component programs, including the Sheth Lecture in Indian Studies. There are also digital files used to produce a deparmental publicity brochure. Notable persons represented in the collection include Vidya Dehejia, Vinay Lal, Ritu Menon, Mira Nair, Ashis Nandy, V. Narayana Rao, Gyanendra Pandey, Salman Rushdie, and Shashi Tharoor.
