Collection Description

Administrative History

While Emory University has offered philosophy courses from its founding in 1836, the Department of Philosophy was not formalized until 1929 under the leadership of Leroy E. Loemker. In 1956 the department, previously solely an undergraduate program, began to offer a doctoral program as well.
