Collection Description

Administrative History

The Freshman Seminar Program started in 1981 as an optional orientation course for first year students in Emory College. The program expanded throughout the 1980s, and by 1986 over 500 students participated in it. A 1986 review of the Freshman Seminar Program recommended that the courses be made mandatory, which they were in 1987. The program was again reviewed during the 1988-1989 schoolyear after complaints from faculty that its original approval had not followed standard procedure. The Educational Policy Committee recommended to maintain the mandatory program.

Scope and Content Note

Records consist of handbooks, schedules, correspondence, and a reading packet for the Freshman Seminar Program after it was made mandatory in 1986, as well as memoranda and reports from the Educational Policy Committee's 1988-1989 review of the program.

Arrangement Note

Arranged by material type.
