Scope and Content Note
The series consists of Mari Evans' professional and personal papers from 1938-2007. The personal papers contain bills, housing information, notes, address books, calendars, and insurance documents. Of particular note is a calendar from 1938 that was used as a journal; it is the oldest personal writing in the collection. The professional papers consist of teaching materials, such as course syllabi, lecture notes, student papers, awards and honors, teaching notes, materials from professional events, administrative documents, and materials gathered from the affiliated organizations and universities. This includes items from the State University of New York at Albany (Albany, New York), Cornell University (Ithaca, New York), The College Language Association and the Indiana Arts Commission .The Maya Angelou file contains materials related to an event given in Angelou's honor by Oprah Winfrey, which Evans attended as a guest.
