Collection Description

Historical Note

Fay Gold opened the Fay Gold Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1980. For nearly 30 years, the gallery hosted exhibitions by artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Marlene Rose, George Segal, Andres Serrano, and Boaz Vaadia. The gallery closed in 2009, and Gold went on to work as an art adviser. Gold reopened the gallery in a new location in 2013.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of the records of the Fay Gold Gallery from 1980-2006, including artist binders and files; exhibition installation binders; event invitations and announcements; lectures and talks given by Fay Gold; photographs of events and exhibits; press releases for exhibits; and printed material. Artist binders and files include photographs and slides of works, as well as correspondence with the gallery, biographical material, and printed material relating to the artists and their exhibitions. Some artist files also include compact disks containing digital images. Installation binders contain photographs documenting the content and layout of exhibits. The collection includes one floppy disk labeled "Fay's book," as well as notes, slides, and photographs from Fay Gold's speaking engagements. The printed material documents the gallery, Gold, and artists who exhibited at the gallery. Photographs include images of art, events, and exhibitions at the gallery.
