Biographical Note

John Adam Finger, Jr. (1920-2006), professor of Education and consultant to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, was born March 11, 1920 in Winchester, Massachusetts to John Adam Finger and Anna Ethel Simmons Finger. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He served in the Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Finger was consultant to the NAACP for school desegregation cases during the 1960s and 1970s. He was a professor of Education at Colgate University, Brown University, and Rhode Island College. Finger and his wife Mary Elizabeth Donovan Finger had five children.
