Series 6
Personal and posthumous material, 1960-1987
Box 34

Scope and Content Note

The final series, Personal and Posthumous Materials, contains clippings and correspondence on a more personal level. Also included in this series is Martha Gaines's obituary and programs, guest book, and eulogies from her memorial service. This series does not give a great deal of insight into her personal life, but additional related information may be found in Series 1, Professional Papers, Subseries 1, Employment, which includes vitae and completed employment applications. These items do contain some personal information.

In 1989 the Georgia chapter of the National Organization for Women established the Martha Wren Gaines Award. The first recipient of this annual award was Betty J. Grant, who received it at the annual conference of Georgia NOW, 8-10 June 1990. The Special Collections Department has collected clippings about this event.
