Collection Description
Historical Note
The God Bless Graffiti Coalition was founded in 2000 in Chicago, Illinois, by Josh MacPhee and Daniel Tucker in order to combat growing national and international anti-graffiti laws. The group fought for the democratization of urban spaces, the decriminalization of graffiti practitioners, and national policies on graffiti. The Coalition produced and distributed brochures, pamphlets, tracts, and transit ads to educate the public about graffiti.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of the records of the God Bless Graffiti Coalition, including pamphlets, prints, and stickers created by graffiti artists belonging to the collective. Most items are in the medium identified as "xerox on paper" and were created in Chicago, Illinois, or San Francisco, California. Many artists are anonymous and dates of creation are unknown. Most titles refer to violence, war, guns, the prison system, and other social justice issues.
Arrangement Note
Arranged in alphabetical order.
