Collection Description
Biographical Note
Michael Eugene Goodman, Atlanta photographer, earned his bachelor's degree from Georgia State University (Atlanta, Georgia) in 1974 and a Masters, Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, Illinois) in 1976 before returning to Atlanta and founding the Nexus Photography Cooperative in 1977. At that time, he started as the first director of the Nexus Press, an Atlanta-based artists' books press and one of the first artists' book presses in the United States. The Nexus press closed in 2003.
Scope and Content Note
The collection contains primarily the work of photographer Michael Eugene Goodman, including photographs, journals, artwork, school portfolios, and promotional materials. In addition, there is printed material relating to the promotion of the Nexus Press. Also included are a small amount of materials related to the founding of the Nexus Press, along with grant application materials for that organization. There are also cameras that Goodman used as a child, as well as his first digital camera.
