Collection Description

Biographical Note

Kent Greenfield, baseball player, was born in 1902 in Guthrie, Kentucky, and died in 1978. He played for the New York Giants in 1925-1926, and also played for the Milwaukee Braves and for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Greenfield was a childhood friend of author Robert Penn Warren.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper and periodical clippings, legal and financial papers, photographs, and a family Bible. Correspondence (1923-1970) is Greenfield's with his family, friends and others. Clippings are on Greenfield, baseball, Hendrix Field (Sebring, Florida), poetry, and songs written by or about Elizabeth Levin. Legal and financial papers include Greenfield's contracts, correspondence with the Internal Revenue Service, a tavern account book, and papers related to the Greenfield family, the New York Giants, and bird dogs.
