Scope and Content Note

This series includes correspondence, files relating to the Library Documentation Project, and miscellaneous files. The correspondence (1968-1970) includes letters pertaining to the establishment of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Center and to the organizing of the Library Documentation Project. There is also a small number of letters (1970) relating to the early days of the Institute of the Black World [see Institute of the Black World series for the bulk of this correspondence.] The Library Documentation Project includes papers relating to the opening of the library at the Martin Luther Jr., Memorial Center (1969); staff notes and memoranda; bibliographies of materials held by the library; some legal and financial records; and reports. Miscellaneous files consist of records of the Center's organization, including statement of purpose, by-laws, proposals, job descriptions, fundraising efforts; and governing groups. They also include progress reports (1969-1970), staff evaluations and recruitment efforts.
