Scope and Content Note

The subseries contains administrative papers from Carmen de Lavallade's life and work circa 1931-2018 including agreements and contracts, awards and honors, biographies, exhibition materials, production materials, set renderings, and travel papers.

Production and performance contracts for "Amos 'N' Andy Music Hall," (1995 July 10) and the "Tonight Show" (1967 October 24), as well as lecture management agreements with Program Corporation of America (New York, New York, circa 1981-1982) are included.

This subseries contains awards and certificates of professional achievement that de Lavallade received throughout her career. Academic awards include De Lavallade's Junior High School diploma (1946) and honorary doctorates from The Julliard School (New York, New York, 2008), Metropolitan College of New York (New York, 2009), and State University of New York (2006). Governmental awarding bodies include the City of Chicago, deeming September 29, 1986 "Carmen de Lavallade Day," and several awards from the City of Los Angeles (circa 1978-2015) notably, a Lifetime Achievement Award (2013). De Lavallade's honorary membership from Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority (1983), as well as an honorary citizenship award from Springfield, Illinois (1968) are also included.

Biographies and curriculum vitae are annotated with handwritten edits and include correspondence from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (New York, New York, 2005), Purchase College State University of New York (2005), and Symphony Space (New York, New York, 2006), among others.

This subseries also includes production materials and set renderings from works in which de Lavallade performed or choreographed such as As I Remember It (2014-2015), The Captive Lark (undated), The Fifth Wheel (2016), and Rusalka (1993).

The folders "Biographies and curriculum vitae, with correspondence, 2005-2010" were arranged as filed by de Lavallade separate from loose curricula vitae and biographies in the series, which were arranged together by the archivist into their own folders.
