Subseries 7.2
Audio recordings, 1923-2018

Scope and Content Note

The subseries contains audio recordings from 1923-2018, including music, narration, and radio programs.

The subseries includes several instances of music and narration throughout the making of original works by Holder and de Lavallade including The Odyssey of Anna and her Scarlet Pumps (circa 1991-2008), Cindy and the Brown Paper Bag (2008), Mr. Orpheus Black (2008), and Sister Alice in Wonderland (2000-2008). Most of the original music in this subseries was written by Holder and is included in recordings for concert performances such as Banda (circa 1950-2010) and The Prodigal Prince (circa 1967-2012). Holder also compiled music for performance using Gregorian chants, choral, classical and traditional music and music from contemporaries such as Odetta and Quincy Jones. Additional original music was created by de Lavallade's collaborator Jane Ira Bloom (The Fifth Wheel, 2007, and Ice Dancing, 2013). Music and narration collaborators include Dave Hab and Sam Harkness.

Geoffrey Holder's Music, the radio program that Holder hosted from circa 1969-1972 on WOR Radio (New York, New York), is well-represented in this subseries. Episodes include conversations with musical guests and family, as well as themed episodes featuring or inspired by a particular artist or holiday.
