Collection Description
Biographical Note
Robert L. Humphries (1930-) was a biologist and ecologist who worked for Georgia Power and the Environmental Protection Agency. His interest in ecology began in his teens and he kept detailed journals chronicling his observations of nature. He was one of twenty charter members of The Georgia Conservancy. Humphries edited and published The Journal of Archibald C. McKinley, an account of McKinley's observations and experiences as a farmer on Sapelo Island, Georgia.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of material created by or relating to Robert L. Humphries from 1946-2007. The bulk of the collection is field journals that Humphries kept as a young man observing nature and wildlife around Georgia from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. The collection also contains printed material about conservation and environmentalism which primarily includes The Georgia Conservancy newsletter Panorama. There are also a small number of subject files, collection data logs, and minimal correspondence.
