Subseries 2.5
Compilations, 1970-1992
Boxes 53-54

Scope and Content Note

This subseries consists of material related to the two compilations Killens wrote and edited. Black Man's Burden (1970) is a collection of his essays; this material includes manuscripts, typescripts, galleys, and printed material. The material on Black Southern Voices (1992) demonstrates Killens's extensive involvement in conceiving of, editing, and arranging the anthology, which was published after his death. Material in these files includes rejected submissions, selection lists, and other documents related to the arrangement of the anthology. Several typescripts of Killens's introduction to the anthology are also located here.
