Scope and Content Note
This series consists of subject files pertaining to topics, people, and events that interested Killens professionally and personally. The subject files contain material that Killens collected, including newsclippings, articles, correspondence, press releases, brochures, pamphlets, and fliers. The variety of topics represented shows Killens's investment in African American arts and civil rights. The largest amount of material pertains to Harry Belafonte, Paul Robeson, and the Detroit Rebellion of 1967; other material relates to political campaigns, trips Killens took for research, and commemorations of prominent African-American artists and politicians. For pieces Killens wrote on the topics and people below, including Harry Belafonte and Paul Robeson, see Series 2: Writings by Killens.
