Scope and Content Note

The series consists of printed material compiled by Lewis, as well as printed material from magazines, newspapers, and other published sources from 1943-2010. Printed material by Lewis includes articles, essays and other works written by Lewis. Printed material about Lewis includes art exhibition catalogs featuring her works and curated collections; published articles about the artist; as well as programs and promotional material for her speaking engagements and events. The series also includes other printed material such as art exhibition catalogs, invitations, programs, and promotional material regarding other artists and events. Of particular interest are greeting cards produced by Lewis' publishing house, Contemporary Crafts, featuring African American art including her own works.
