Scope and Content Note
The collection contains materials collected by Leon F. Litwack relating to the African Methodist Episcopal Church and fraternal organizations in Southern California from 1905-1922. The original owner of the materials is unknown. The collection includes three record books. One details the conference proceedings of the Southern California district of the African Methodist Episcopal Church from 1907-1910. The book includes minutes, membership statistics, and financial information. A number of loose items were removed from the book and placed in a separate folder. A second record book in the collection documents the travel of a church official in Southern California. In addition to detailing weekly scripture passages, it records financial and membership information for each congregation visited from 1905-1908. The final record book contains minutes and financial records from 1921-1922 for the Western Light Lodge No. 31, an African American fraternal organization in Visalia, California. Other printed material in this collection has been cataloged.
