Collection Description
Biographical Note
Guy Redvers Lyle (1907-1994), born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada, received his library science degree (1929) from Columbia University's School of Library Service. He was director of the libraries at Antioch College, The Women's College of the University of North Carolina, Louisiana State University, and Emory University. He wrote widely in the area of university library administration, took an active part in numerous professional organizations, and served as a library consultant for many colleges.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of papers of Guy Redvers Lyle from ca. 1947-1986. The bulk of the collection includes library consultant files (1947-1976) contain correspondence, architectural drawings, and reports pertaining to Lyle's consulting work with colleges on all aspects of library organization and use. The collection also includes records of the Southeastern Interlibrary Research Facility, and its predecessor the Georgia-Florida Committee for Planning Research Library Cooperation, including correspondence (1954-1958); meeting minutes (1954-1956); memoranda, notes, and agendas (1953-1958); and miscellaneous printed material. In addition, the papers contain correspondence (1960, 1986), certificates, manuscripts, galley proofs, and press copies of Lyle's writings; pamphlets; and clippings.
