Collection Description
Biographical Note
Edwin T. Martin, author and educator, was born June 2, 1905 in Marshallville, Georgia, and died January 22, 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was educated at Emory University (B.A., 1928; M.A., 1929) and at the University of Wisconsin (Ph.D., 1942); taught American literature and other English courses at Emory University (1929-1968); and served in the Army Air Corps in the African-Sicily-Italy theater (1942-1945). He was the author of a book on the scientific work of Thomas Jefferson.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of the papers of Edwin T. Martin from 1940-1987. The papers include manuscripts, correspondence, clippings, and personal military records. Manuscripts are of Martin's unpublished writings and contain information about his military service; correspondence is primarily with colleagues and concern his publications and professional activities; clippings include reviews of his book on Thomas Jefferson and biographical information about Martin; military records relate to his service in World War II and in the reserves.
