Collection Description
Biographical Note
Franklin McCamey (1919-2007) was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and earned his master's degree in forestry from Yale University and his Ph.D. in ornithology from the University of Connecticut. He served on the faculty of the University of Connecticut's Forest and Wildlife Management department from 1948-1962. He moved to Georgia in the early 1970s and established a number of nature centers around the state including the Elachee Nature Science Center in Gainesville; the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell; The Reynolds Nature Preserve in Clayton County; and the Sandy Creek Nature Center in Athens.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of photographs and negatives taken of or by Frank McCamey. Subjects include his family, his time in the military, and studies of nature. There are also a small number of handwritten notes and unfinished journals with limited entries.
