Collection Description
Historical Note
The charter of the Atlanta Boys' Clubs was recorded with the Georgia Superior Court in 1938. The organization's name was changed to the Metropolitan Atlanta Boys' Clubs, Inc. in 1956.
Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of the records of the Metropolitan Atlanta Boys' Clubs from 1938-1990. The papers include annual reports, minutes, audit reports, yearbooks, correspondence, subject files, speeches, a typescript and 26 interviews on tape. In addition to the organizational files of the Metropolitan Atlanta Boys' Clubs there are: audio tape interviews conducted by Frank Kentsmith with persons associated with the Clubs and a typescript for his History of the Metropolitan Atlanta Boys' Club; materials related to a Poetry and Writing Program established for the clubs by Marel Brown and to her receipt of an 11 Alive Community Service Award; materials documenting the activities of the Clubs' Cultural Committee and the Fine Arts exhibit they sponsored; and scrapbooks. Later additions includes records of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.
